Some of the more common types of generic geometry import are iges, step and parasolid but there are many others including direct translators from CAD models. Even the best translators have occasional problems. These can be avoided by defeaturing the CAD geometry, changing dimensions in CAD, repairing faulty geometry, modifying geometry import settings or rebuilding the model.
Here are some examples of poor geometry requiring clean up.
Tip One of the biggest time wasters is meshing models from defective geometry. It is well worth the money to invest in several geometry import engines that are often an optional extra with FEA software.
